What a second opinion actually involves.
We use the phrase a lot, so it's worth saying plainly what it means and what it costs you. Short version: one phone call, some paperwork, and a decision you make later.
Who you'd be talking to
A state-licensed insurance agent who works with businesses like yours. They're an independent business, not part of Renewal Crew, and they pay us to arrange the introduction. What they're paid after that, if anything, is between them and whoever they place business with — it isn't tied to what we're paid, and we're paid the same whether you go ahead or walk away.
One agent, not several. We don't put your name on a list that several people buy, and we don't sell it on.
What the first call looks like
- Twenty to forty minutes, usually on the phone, at a time you pick.
- They ask about the work. What you do, who does it, where, what you run, how long you've been at it.
- They ask for paperwork. The five things — and if you've got them already, this is a short call.
- They tell you what they'd need to look into it properly, and roughly how long that takes.
What shouldn't happen on that call is a number. Nobody honest can tell you what they can do for you before they've seen your paperwork, and a figure offered in the first ten minutes isn't based on anything.
What happens after
They go away, do the work, and come back to you. That takes days to weeks depending on what they're waiting for. Then you have a second conversation, and at the end of it you either do something or you don't.
Plenty of owners don't, and that's a legitimate outcome. Finding out that what you've got holds up is worth the hour — it's just a quieter result than the other one.
What it costs you
The hour. There's no fee to you at any point, from us or from them, and nothing is owed for the conversation itself.
How to end it
- With the agent: tell them you're not going ahead. They'd rather hear it than chase you.
- With us: reply to any email and say so, or use the form. We'll keep the reminder if you still want it, or stop everything if you don't.
- Next year: if the introduction wasn't useful, tell us that too. It's the most useful thing you can send us.
What we're not doing in any of this
We're not in the conversation. We don't sit in on the call, we don't see your paperwork, we don't advise you on anything, and we don't know what you decided unless you tell us. We're not an insurance agency and nobody here holds a licence — we asked when it renews and we made an introduction, and that's the end of our part.
